Fanfiction Information
This help page is designed for fanfiction newbies as well as those who are unfamiliar with the often-restrictive United States rating system. Technically the rating system was designed for movies and, technically, no one is supposed to use it anymore for non-movies, but it would be too much of a hassle to change all of the fanfic listings on this site so the system stays in place.
Rating Information
G: General Audiences. Everyone can read these, but there aren't many G-rated fics on this site.
PG: Parental Guidance for young kids. Less than fifteen fics have this rating.
PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned if your kid is under 13. Most of my fics have this rating.
R: Restricted for kids under 17 unless reading with an adult. A sizeable number of fanfics on this site have this rating
NC-17: No one 17 or under. Very few fanfics on this site have this rating.
Genre Information
Action/Adventure: Fighting stories and/or quest stories.
Alternate Universe: Stories that don't fit into the series timeline.
Angst: Stories with a lot of negative emotion.
Drama: Stories with a little bit of everything.
General: Unclassifiable stories.
Fantasy: Stories with the elements of classical fantasy (magic, swordplay, etc) beyond the canon.
Horror: Stories with suspense or frightening elements.
Humor: Stories that are supposed to make you laugh.
Lemon: Stories rated NC-17 with descriptive sex in them.
Lime: Stories rated R with not-so-descriptive sex in them.
Parody: A story that imitates another story, a movie, etc. that's usually making fun of the original.
Romance: Love stories that may or may not be sappy.
Sci-fi: Science fiction stories (futuristic worlds and/or technology beyond the canon).
Shoujo ai: Anime-related female/female G to PG-13.
Shounen ai: Anime-related male/male G to PG-13.
Slash: Non-anime-related male/male.
Yaoi: Anime-related male/male R & NC-17.
Yuri: Anime-related female/female R & NC-17.
Warning Information (won't see many of these)
BDSM: contains bondage, domination, submission, or masochism (or a combination thereof)
Dark: contains large amounts of psychological distress, death, or torture
Non-con: contains rape
